Camino May 18, 2025 by Patricia M · Published May 18, 2025 Day 34 – swinging incense burner. Look to the right of the pillar above the bald guy in front of the woman in pink. The burner is swinging in the high arches of the cathedral. I took a video so if you see me, ask me to show you the video. It is quite impressive.
Camino May 18, 2025 by Patricia M · Published May 18, 2025 Day 34 – this is the Botafumeiro; it means “smoke spreader”. It’s a giant incense burner and it take 8 men to operate the device when they burn it at mass. It is not always done but it was used at the noon mass.
Camino May 18, 2025 by Patricia M · Published May 18, 2025 Day 34 – inside the cathedral before mass began. It was 90% in Spanish but I didn’t care. It was so cool to be there. It is here that I realized I did not have to walk tomorrow!
Camino May 18, 2025 by Patricia M · Published May 18, 2025 Day 34 – arrival at Santiago de Compostela. This is the cathedral where I attended the mass at noon. I got there before the line got really long but I still did not get a seat for the mass. Personally I think they should give priority seating to those who walked the farthest upon arrival to Santiago!

Camino May 18, 2025 by Patricia M · Published May 18, 2025 Day 34 – this was about 9:30 Sunday morning and I had already been walking 3 hours. I am now about 2 miles from Santiago and there was a clearing and a hill. I got off the path to see if I could see Santiago. These towers are the iconic sign of the old part of the city. When I saw this I started crying. I cried for the next 30 minutes as I walking into Santiago.
Camino May 18, 2025 by Patricia M · Published May 18, 2025 Day 34 – walking to Santiago. This sign shows 10km (6 miles) to Santiago. It was amazing to see this since I started out about 488 miles from Santiago 34 days prior.
Camino May 18, 2025 by Patricia M · Published May 18, 2025 Day 33 – I thought this picture was funny. From the point of taking the picture it looks like the path led you to a dead end. Turns out the path takes a sharp right and goes into a tunnel under the road.
