Day 29 – This info is from my guide book: is considered a masterpiece of baroque design; at the height of it’s monastic community, it controlled over 100 churches, 200 towns and 300 other monasteries. Pirates plundered it several times as it was known for it’s wealth. It survived two fires in 1536 and 1951.

Day 29 – Monastery from the top as I entered Samos. I bet it took me 20 minutes to get down to the village from here.

Day 29 – my walk to the monastery had me walking most of the day along a river. The sound of it was so comforting. My alternate route did add about 3 miles to my day.

Day 29 – I am on my way to Sarria but I took an alternate route to visit a monastery in Samos. Most of the day it did not rain! Yippee
